ABOUT THIS PIECE

This painting by Cándido Bidó (B. 1936, Dominican Republic) is an oil on canvas large scale painting. It was created as a consignment request by the current owner, acquired 1988 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This marvelous oil on canvas piece was inspired by “La Maternidad” translated to Maternity. This work is hand signed in oil on the lower center right front side of the canvas and in verso. This piece does not include the initial certificate of authenticity provided by the artist, however, this piece has been certified by the family estate of Bidó, and the original certificate will be issued upon final transaction. This work is framed on its borders of the canvas in gold painted wood. This acquired work has remained as part of a Dominican-Jewish Private Collection, and has not been available to the public since its consignment request, until now. This piece is available for private sales to select clients of ARTGALA LLC. It has no applicable Terms of Sales, and it is highly advised as a suitable piece to enhance an ongoing formal and serious blue chip collection focused on latin art nieve pieces.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Cándido Bidó was a Dominican painter best known for his use of tropical colors, bold lines, and simplified forms. His depictions of sun-drenched landscapes, exotic animals, fruit, flowers, and portraits of local women, evoke a deep love for his surroundings. Born on May 20, 1936 in Bonao, Dominican Republic, he went on to study at the Escuela de Altos de Chavon. During the 1960s, the artist taught at the National School of Arts and later founded the Cultural Center Plaza in his hometown of Bonao. Bidó died on March 7, 2011 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Today, his works are held in the collection of the Galería de Arte Moderno in Santo Domingo.
