ABOUT THE ARTIST
Martín Simón was born in Gata, Spain in 1940. He was a painter and sculptor belonging to the abstract expressionist movement. He had a long career and a large body of work. Different stages can be distinguished in his painting, each clearly distinct from the others, revealing a painter of great versatility who was unafraid of change.
In 1957, he enrolled in the Syndical School of Painting in Valladolid and moved to Rome the following year, returning in 1963 to his adopted city. After a series of new travels, he dedicated himself to painting and sculpting from 1970 onward, drawing inspiration from both his native land of Cáceres and the Basque Country. Decades later, in the mid-2000s, he settled in the Dominican Republic, where he continued to develop his humanistic philosophy, focusing on denouncing injustice and the abuse of the strong over the weak. Following the “The Gods” series, he addressed the crisis of values in a society that destroys man.
From 2015, he resided in Germany, where he passed away in 2018.
